I “performed” this “dance” for video reference of this kid in episode 302 of Avatar, “The Headband.” I rarely shy away from making a complete ass of myself in the name of fun, so I thought I’d share this with you guys. This was taped back in 2006, but I think my back still hurts.

Depression destroys people. Way too many people I know have been crushed.

It’s funny because it’s true! Did I say funny? I meant soul-crushingly depressing.

A few hours ago, I landed in Los Angeles, turned on my phone, and confirmed what you already know. Sony Pictures Television is replacing me as showrunner on Community, with two seasoned fellows that I’m sure are quite nice - actually, I have it on good authority they’re quite nice, because…

This is ridiculously depressing…

Holga, a set on Flickr.
There’s something oddly fun about putting a $10 plastic lens, with some of the worst imaginable optics, on a camera with a four-figure pricetag. The Holga lens is a replica of the lens on the Holga medium-format cameras, and since it takes away a lot of the variables of photography, and just looks awful for some types of shots, it’s both challenging and fun to use. It’s also part of why I despise Instagram; there’s something very special about this sort of photography, and using software to fake it is like putting those fake bullet-hole stickers on a car.
I am in hysterics about that first picture of the grill because, once upon a time when I was a photography student, I took just about the same exact picture of the same exact subject, only on 8 x 10 film. It took me about ten minutes to set up and looked just about the same as you’re picture. Part of the reason why I’m no longer a photography student.
Anyway, I agree 100% about Instagram. One of the big problems with it, in my opinion, is it completely ruins the art of photos that are shot in a vintage style. I mean, I am all for giving everybody the tools they need to make their own art, lest it be some sort of exclusive club only certain people can be apart of, but the problem with it is it takes away the challenge of shooting photos like that, and when you do that it takes away from the art form as a whole. Of course, it’s a bit pretentious of me to think that something like Instagram is seriously having that impact. Maybe I just hate how people suddenly think they are making art by adding on a sepia filter or whatever.
